University of Calabria
The University of Calabria, established by L. n. 442 of 12 March 1968 (OJ No. 103 of 22/04/1968), is a public institution with legal personality aimed at scientific research, cultural education and civil progress of society. It fosters innovation also with the technological transfer of research results.
The Civil Engineering Department (DINCI) is inspired by the cultural values that have always distinguished Italian civil engineering, a point of reference in the planning, construction and management of infrastructures and works in urban environments and in natural settings.
The cultural project is based on the legacy of the three old Departments (Soil Defense, Territorial Planning, Structures) maintains and strengthens the characterizing areas of civil engineering, such as Construction Science and Technique, Technical Architecture and Architectural Composition and urban, Geotechnical, Hydraulics and Hydraulic Construction, Roads, Transport, Urban Planning and other border disciplines such as Estimates, Materials Technology and Topography. Each of them develop themes related to the transformation of the works, as is required by society today, taking up the classic themes of civil engineering and architecture and proposing them in the light of the new requirements of sustainability and safety.
The research themes reflect the acquisition of original results on broad-spectrum and interdisciplinary topics and are an integral part of the first and second level educational offer (study courses) and of the third level educational offer (PhD). The professors of the DINCI take part in two PhD programs of the University: Doctorate in Civil and Industrial Engineering and PhD in Environmental, Construction and Energy Sciences and Engineering.
The DINCI has numerous agreements for internships with public and private institutions and companies, through which students and new graduates acquire direct experience of the world of work. There are also numerous educational and research laboratories.
